This Khoryug Nursery is a Training Centre for all our Khoryug Monasterises in Nepal under the Leadership of H.H.the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorjee. At the moment, we are around 40 Monasteries in india, Nepal and Bhutan.
Khoryug is an environment organisation which is committed to putting into practice the 108 Points on the Environment created by H.H.the the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa.
why is Khoryug Nursery important in Nepal? At our Khoryug Nursery we grow new trees from seeds and cuttings. This is important for 4 reasons:
1) as we grow new trees, we learn important horticulture skills.
2) we can train others in these skills.
3) It is much cheaper to grow trees than to buy them from commercial nurseries.
4) By growing from seeds and cutting we are adding new plants to be Environment.
Therefore, we have built a Khoryug Nursery for all our Monasteries in Nepal, especially to grow trees which are important for the protection of the land from soil erosion and landslides, particularly by growing trees such Juniper,Cypress and Tuja etc.
Training is a very important part of our ‘learning by doing’ and in this way we can train our Khoryug Monks and Nuns, and Thrangu Shree Mangal Divp School Volunteers in Farming and Horiculture. one main aim of this training is to create Green Jobs for the future.
We have been greatly supported by Nehnang powa Monastery which has provided a plot of land for the nursery. Khenpo Chonyi and Madame Shirley Blair, director and principal of Thrangu shree Mangal Dvip School, i have provided Motivated Volunteers who do A to Z jobs inside the nursery. we also engage our young Monks of Pawo Monastery to raise Environmental consciousness inside the Monastery.
Constructiuon of Khoryug Nursery started around the end of year 2009 and on 10th April 2010 at 10 o’clock we are able to open it with a short Ceremony in which ven Khenpo Chonyi la, Madame Shirley Blair(Thrangu Mangal Dvip School), and Ven Drupon Rinpoche, the General Secretray of H.H.the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa
