It is with great sadness that we inform of a devastating earthquake that has hit the Kyegu region in Kham, Tibet on the morning of 14th April 2010, which has claimed more than 400 lives and injured around 10,000.

His Holiness the Karmapa has directed all the Kagyu Monasteries to hold the following prayers; Zangchod Monlam (Aspirational Prayers of Arya Bhadracharya), Khorwa Dongdrug (Overturning of Samsara’s Depth) and Changchog (Inscription-Ritual for the Deceased) for the victims of the catastrophe and their families.

Its a very sad day for humanity especially us Tibetans. We all should come together in this moment of great devastation.
I just finished reciting Zangchod Monlam and aspire that the victims and their families find peace. I will try to recite all the prayers that His Holiness has suggested.

I am a British woman who lived and taught English in Yushu, and other locations in Qinghai and Sichuan for about 5 years. I want to say Thank you Karmapa! May your prayers ease the recovery in the Yushu region, keep safe warm the homeless in the freezing nights ahead, and comfort the deep grief of the many people who have lost family members and friends. Karmapa Chenno!

We hope to see you in London soon :) )

The dedication in the first volume of Jewels of Light is:
“At this time, following the earthquake that completely destroyed Thrangu Tashi Chöling in Jyekundo, East Tibet, …, the editor and publisher would like to dedicate any merit that arises from this book to Venerable Lodrö Nyima Rinpoche, the nephew of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, Abbot of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in N.Y.
In 1992 His Eminence Tai Situ Rinpoche recognized Karma Lodrö Nyima Rinpoche as the ninth reincarnation of Bengar Jampäl Zangpo, the well-known composer of Dorje-‘Chang Thung-ma – The Short Dorje Chang Lineage Prayer. Having completed the traditional three-year retreat in the retreat center at Thrangu Monastery in Tibet, Lodrö Nyima Rinpoche has resided there ever since and is the monastery head. Through his tireless and selfless activities, he had transformed the monastic community into a flourishing Dharma center for both the Lamas and village people. He established a Shedra for the monks, restored the old monastery, built a beautiful new one, rebuilt the retreat center that houses the precious Kudung of the Very Venerable Kyentse Ösäl Rabsäl, the Second Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche. Last year, he also finished building an Ani Gompa not far from the main monastery.” — Gaby Hollmann, Munich, 2010.
