Aspirations

  1. Marc Gerhard says:

BUY ONLY WHAT YOU REALLY USE

This is no real prayer, but may be something worthwhile to share:

My mother grew up during the second world war. Although she never suffered from severe starvation, she would be very cautious concerning wasting of food and water. She would avoid throwing away food if ever possible. When she cooked meet, she would buy only a little peace. She would always save water and switch of unused lights. Although she operated economically, I never had the feeling, that we missed something.

I have seen people living alone – but the fridge is filled up to feed a whole family. Finally most of the food is thrown away. It does not hurt them because food is comparitively cheap in our country. Out of greed I myself have bought many things I did not need afterwards. When I think of the people in poorer parts of the world, it is embarrassing.

One simple measure in our rich contries could be to buy only what we really use – this does not only concern food. We would

    - still have everything we like
    - save a lot of money
    - preserve our resources
    - save the life of many animals
    - have less waste we have to bother with

The only thing to do would be to train ourselves to think a little bit ahead before we go for shopping. And that the kick we get from buying something superfluos is only very short-lived.

    Dear friends,
Today, while thousands of dead birds are falling from the sky and millions of dead fish are being washed ashore from oceans and streams, let us support everyone who cares with the words
    OM SHANTI … Peace.

  10. Let’s make peace with Metta (loving-kindness) taught us by Lord Buddha, without peace we cannot improve our socio-economic, cultural and livelihood earning development. We should learn patience, conflict resolution and make our only planet conflict free so that every sentient being can live and move freely from one place to another and we may improve our spiritual status through practicing Buddha’s teachings.
Be happy all living beings of the universe

Best wishes for everyone working on The Feather Project and deep gratitude to Michael Slaby, too, who I had the honor of meeting during the seminar offered by Ven. Choeje Lama Phuntsok at Karma Chang Chub Choephel Ling, Heidelberg, in Oct. 2009. May every step that you as well as all members of this project take and everything you do bear beneficial results for the sake of future generations and for the Earth, our precious home.

My aspiration is to follow and act on the wise teachings of my spiritual teachers who also include Tew Bunnag, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo as well as the Kogi Mamas of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia (www.taironatrust.org).A little of what the Mamas have to say can be found on ‘You Tube’ by searching for ‘Aluna Teaser Trailer’ or anything by ‘aereira’.There is a wonderful film made in about 1990 for the BBC by Alan Ereira about the Kogi Mama’s message ‘From the Heart of the World, the Elder Brothers Warning’ Hopefully His holiness the 17th Karmapa has received this by now.Anyone interested can get a DVD of it from the Tairona Heritage Trust. As we didn’t listen fully to their message, in one last attempt to save our Mother Earth they have just finished making another film with Alan called ‘Aluna’.For me this is all highly important.
Part of my aspiration is to plant as many trees as I possibly can before I die.Useful websites are:www.woodland-trust.org.uk; http://www.treecouncil.org.uk;and some interesting ideas can be found by checking out ‘Gorilla Gardening’ or Gorilla Gardeners’
During this ‘Year of the Iron Tiger’ (2010) I am also committed to helping http://www.globaltigerpatrol.org; http://www.amur.org.uk and http://www.tigersintheforest.com. as much as possible.
Another poor sentient being in despirate need of help, if it’s not too late can be found at http://www.helpanna.org.
I will endevour to help save much as I possibly can Mother Earth and all sentient beings within her.As well as sending Metta throughout the Universe.
Thankyou Your Holiness for this wonderful website and all your good work. Many good blessings be upon you and your community.
