Green Living at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) Monastery

The Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) monastery, is His Holiness the Karmapa’s North American seat in Woodstock, New York.

KTD inaugurated its Khoryug environmental mission at its Earth Day Celebration this year, April 23rd 2011.

The Earth Day Celebration was the first in the KTD Green Living Series of ecology-related gatherings. The overarching goals of the series are to:

1. Raise awareness of :

  • environmental degradation of the Himalayan region and the work of the Khoryug network of monasteries;
  • the interconnectedness between ecological challenges faced in the Catskills Mountain region where KTD is located, and in the Himalayan region,
  • the need to preserve those endangered Himalayan arts and cultural practices that are expressions of Buddhist spiritual tradition; and are impacted by environmental degradation.

2. Invite financial support for the ecology-conscious exterior completion and greening of the monastery in Woodstock, NY.

3. Provide a forum for best practice sharing and action plan development among environmentalists and those who want to engage in environmental advocacy.
