About Wosel Karma Tekchok Ling

Wosel Karma Tek Chok Ling is Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche’s nunnery located in Kathmandu, Nepal.  Apart from Wosel Karma Tek Chok Ling, Khenpo Rinpoche also has nunnery in Bhutan and Tibet, as well as a nunnery and retreat center in Yolmo, near Milarepa’s cave. While the construction of Osel Karma Tekcholing began in 2006, it  was completed this year in 2009.

Environmental Goals

Following the instructions of His Holiness, the Gyalwang Karmapa, we want to include environmental protection from the beginning as we set up our nunnery.

Our goals include:

1. Solar energy

Solar Panel

In order to warm up water in the bathrooms, we have installed solar energy, which will save energy. We have also installed solar light power in some rooms, on the balconies and in the gardens.

2. Greening our surroundings

We planted trees and flowers around our nunnery as well as in the retreat centre in Yolmo.  We take good care of our gardens and the flowers and trees are growing very beautifully.

3. Not using plastic products

We are trying to to reduce uses of plastic products. We carry our own bags when we go to market for shopping.

4. Composting and natural fertilizer

We use kitchen wastes to make our own organic fertilizer that can be used in our gardens. We were told that the fertilizer in the market will end up poisoning the nearby waters and Nepal has a problem with water as you may know.

5. Self sufficient gardening

We are now growing different kinds of vegetables in our garden. It is good to eat fresh vegetables for our own health and it also means that we are more self sufficient.

6. Waste management

We have put out three different types of dustbins everywhere so that people can separate their wastes and some things can be recycled like paper and plastics.

7. Cleanliness and hygiene

We have selected Friday as our Cleanliness Day and all the nuns clean and wash during that day.

These are a few things that we have begun and we pray that we can do more in the future with the blessings of His Holiness. We will continue to save Environment and try to do our best for our Mother Earth.
