Third Khoryug Conference to be held in Bylakuppe, South India

The third Khoryug Conference will begin on the 14th of November and end the 16th of November, 2010 in Bylakuppe, Mysore. The conference is hosted by Kagyu Nalanda Institute, the monastery of Venerable Karma Tulku Rinpoche, and will be attended by 31 monasteries and 7 nunneries from across Bhutan, India, and Nepal.

The goals of the conference are:

  1. For Khoryug monasteries to report back on ongoing environmental activities
  2. To provide project management training for Khoryug coordinators
  3. To develop group/ regional project concepts

His Holiness, the 17th Karmapa was expected to preside over this Khoryug conference in Bylakuppe. However, his administrative office was informed only a few days earlier that he should reconsider his travel plans to South India. The Khoryug conference however continues to move under his guidance.

Attending the conference are five new monasteries that have recently joined Khoryug.

Lama Karma Yeshi from Mahey Monastery in Ladakh, said “I am very happy to represent Mahey Gompa and Ladakh itself at this conference. We have wanted to join Khoryug for some time because the environment of Ladakh is so beautiful and we should do everything we can to protect it.” Mahey Gompa is the main seat of Venerable Drupon Dechen Rinpoche.
